University Of Massachusetts Amherst Students Receive National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships

Six UMass Amherst graduate students have been named recipients of the Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation.

This year’s fellows include Lauren Brown (Engineering), Matthew Fertakos (Organismic and Evolutionary Biology), Benjamin Greenvall (Polymer Science and Engineering), Tessa Masis (Computer Science), Catherine McCarthy (Physics) and Donald Snyder (Political Science).

The program recognizes and supports outstanding early-career graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions.

Fellowships provide the student with a three-year annual stipend of $37,000 along with a $12,000 cost of education allowance for tuition and fees (paid to the institution), as well as access to opportunities for professional development available to NSF-supported graduate students.
