University Of Oregon’s Incoming President Prepares For Summer Arrival

Incoming University of Oregon President Karl Scholz took part in a series of campus and community activities during a recent visit to Eugene ahead of his official arrival to campus July 1.

Scholz, who was named as the UO’s 19th president by the UO Board of Trustees in March, visited Eugene in late April as he prepares to move to Eugene. The incoming president met with several deans and administrative leaders, stopped in at the Associated Students of the University of Oregon’s open house, visited with prospective students during a Duck Days scholarship event, and met with Student Life leaders from across Oregon who were meeting on the UO campus.

He also received a tour of campus from UO student ambassador and incoming ASUO President Chloé Webster.

In addition, Scholz attended the annual community Take Back the Night Rally, attended a UO Symphony concert of Dvořák Symphony No. 8 at Beall Hall, and took in several UO sporting events, including a women’s soccer game against Portland State, the spring football game, and a baseball game against Arizona.

Scholz, who is a recreational runner, also experienced his first Eugene Marathon event, cheering on runners at the annual Duck Dash 1K run.

The incoming president hopes to visit Eugene and the UO Portland campus at least once more before he arrives this summer.
