University of Reading: New partnership brings together research and policy

The University of Reading and the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies are delighted to announce a new partnership, connecting researchers and students with criminal justice practitioners and policy makers. Through events, publications and creative collaborations, the partnership will create opportunities to discuss and explore a range of contemporary crime, justice and punishment challenges.

Jo Phoenix, Professor of Criminology and Deputy Head of the School of Law said: “The Centre for Crime and Justice Studies has its pulse on matters of crime and justice. I am thrilled that they have agreed to partner with us. Through the partnership we will bridge the divide between academic criminology and the world of policy and practice development. This coincides with the School of Law launching a new BSc on criminology, with our first intake in September 2023.”

Richard Garside, Director of the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, said: “We value our partnerships with universities, academics and researchers, and recognise the profound importance of research and evidence for effective policy and practice. Through our various publications, events and collaborations, we strive for a fair, effective and accountable justice system, in a society less dominated by criminalisation and punishment.”

The partnership plans to hold its first annual conference in 2023.
