University of Reading: New Shinfield Community Centre Opened By University Vice-Chancellor
A new community facility in Shinfield was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading on Wednesday 10 November.
The School Green Centre, built and operated by Shinfield Parish Council, is located on land owned by the University and leased to the Council.
The new community hub will provide space for local community groups to meet and hire rooms, a library and a cafe run by Berkshire-based Robyn’s Nest.
Shinfield Parish Council’s staff and councillors, Wokingham Borough Council representatives, the project’s architects and construction team were all invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening.
Professor Van de Noort said: “It is wonderful to see this new community centre opening, and we are proud to have played our part in bringing this facility to the residents of Shinfield and beyond. I am sure it will be enjoyed by local residents for many years to come.”
Andrew Grimes, the Chair of the Parish Council, said: “We’re delighted that the School Green Centre has officially opened, and we look forward to welcoming the Shinfield community to our opening event on Saturday 20th November.”
A Family Fun Day will run at the centre from 12pm to 3pm on Saturday 20th November. This will be the first opportunity for families to come and explore the new community space. The day will feature stalls from a variety of local businesses and community groups. A wide selection of refreshments will be on offer, plus games and activities for everyone to enjoy.
The University is working with Shinfield Parish Council to bring further community facilities to the local area, including a new sports pavilion in Shinfield West and some new sports pitches and associated facilities at Manor Sports Field in Shinfield.
