University of Reading: Nutrition honour for Reading Professor

University of Reading Professor of Nutrition, Julie Lovegrove, was presented with the BNF Prize, last week. This award is given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the field of human nutrition.

Professor Lovegrove’s 30-year career, most recently as Director of the Hugh Sinclair Unit of Human Nutrition at the University of Reading, has focussed on the role of nutrition on cardiovascular diseases. Her work examines the metabolic impact of dietary fats, nutrient-gene interactions, and the potential of personalised nutrition.

With more than 280 scientific publications, Professor Lovegrove’s work has had a multitude of impacts. Most notable is her contribution in establishing the relevance of dietary fat quality to the development and prevention of cardiometabolic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome (diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity).
