University of Reading’s Professor appointed CBE in New Years honours

Professor Paul Glaister has spoken of his immense pride and gratitude after being appointed CBE – Commander of the Order of the British Empire – in the King’s New Year Honours List 2023.

Professor Glaister, who is Professor of Mathematics and Mathematics Education in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, receives the honour for services to Education.

He said: “I am totally overwhelmed and humbled by being appointed CBE in the King’s New Year Honours List.

“I am hugely grateful to the University of Reading, and the many people and groups I have worked with across the UK, internationally, and within the University of Reading. I am indebted to them all for their enduring support of my activities, and for the opportunities I have had to be able to pursue my passion for mathematics and mathematics education.

“This award recognises the importance of education and research in mathematical and quantitative sciences to individuals, and ultimately for the benefit of society.”

Professor Glaister is a distinguished academic researcher and educator in mathematics. He is a champion for all mathematical and quantitative education, and is involved in many national and international bodies.

“Paul is an inspirational mathematician, a talented communicator and an educational leader who has worked hard to put maths at the centre of British education.
