University of South Africa: National Press Club honours Unisa for outstanding support
The NPC is an organisation whose members are journalists from mainstream and community media, journalism trainers and communication practitioners from the private and public sectors.
Unisa and the NPC have for the past few years jointly hosted the Percy Qoboza Memorial Lecture. The lecture is held each year in remembrance of 19 October 1977, when the apartheid government banned The World, Weekend World, and other publications and organisations in what came to be known as Black Wednesday. The lecture honours Percy Qoboza, the then editor of The World and a critic of the apartheid regime, and serves as a reflection on media freedom.
The two parties are also in the process of exploring other possibilities to reinforce their relationship.
Other organisations that received the award are the Government Communication and Information System, the South African National Biodiversity Institute, the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority, South African National Parks, North-West University, Court Classique Hotel and the Pretoria News.
