The University of Southampton has again secured its place in the top 20 of UK universities, retaining 16th place for the second year in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

The position means Southampton remains in second place in the South East region, with only the University of Oxford placed higher.

The success is further endorsement that Southampton is one of the best universities in the UK, after also rising two places to 13th in the Complete University Guide 2023 in June this year.

President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith, said: “We are delighted to see our University continue at 16 in the UK, underlining Southampton’s growing reputation and increasing attractiveness to students. Over the last few years our stable position within the top 20 is great to see and provides a firm foundation to push even higher under the new strategy. Many thanks for all of the work across the University that has contributed to this.”

The Guide is compiled using indicators focused on student satisfaction with teaching quality and the wider student experience, research quality, graduate prospects, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, student/staff ratios, services and facilities spend, and degree completion rates with further consideration given to social inclusion.
