University of St Andrews: St Andrews winter graduation celebrations return

An internationally renowned musician, a respected journalist and political commentator, and a world-leading mathematician will join more than 600 students at the University of St Andrews this December for the return of in-person winter graduations.

Graduates will receive their academic awards at the winter graduation celebrations on St Andrew’s Day (Tuesday 30 November) and Wednesday 1 December 2021, the first in-person graduation celebrations to take place since the start of the global pandemic.

Leading broadcaster, political commentator and (almost) local boy Andrew Marr will be awarded an honorary degree on Wednesday 1 December in recognition of his distinguished career as an award-winning journalist, broadcaster and leading figure at the BBC for 21 years.

Others to be honoured include internationally renowned pianist Professor Joanna MacGregor and leading mathematician Professor Caroline Series.

Tuesday 30 November 10.30am Professor Caroline Series – To be awarded Doctor of Science (DSc)

Tuesday 30 November 2pm Professor Joanna MacGregor – To be awarded Doctor of Music (DMus)

Wednesday 1 December 2pm Andrew Marr – To be awarded Doctor of Letters (DLitt)

Winter graduation 2021 will take place at the University of St Andrews’ Sports Centre, University Park, St Leonard’s Rd, St Andrews KY16 9DY.
