University of Strathclyde: New University Secretary and Compliance Officer appointed
The University of Strathclyde has appointed Dr Stuart Fancey as its new University Secretary, while also appointing Louise McKean to the new post of University Compliance Officer.
Following the departure of Dr Veena O’Halloran from the post of University Secretary and Compliance Officer, the University created the two new roles. The University Secretary will have responsibility for Student Experience, Education Enhancement and Strategy and Policy, while the Compliance Officer oversees Information Governance Unit, Internal Audit, Legal Services as well as our new Safety and Wellbeing Directorate, which incorporates the existing areas of Safety, Health and Wellbeing, and Security Services.
Important roles
Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said: “I am delighted to welcome Stuart and Louise to these important roles within Strathclyde. Between them they have a wide range of experiences that will help the University as we move towards delivery of our Vision 2025 strategy and onto the next phase of Strathclyde’s growth.
Dr Stuart Fancey
“Stuart’s experience from the Scottish Funding Council, and from industry before that, will bring a new dimension to the University Executive Team. He has a keen understanding of the importance of teaching, learning and the student experience as well as a deep insight into the role that universities play in a modern economy through research, innovation and collaboration with the private and public sectors.
“In her role as Legal Counsel to the University, Louise has applied her keen grasp of the legislative, safety and regulatory frameworks within which Strathclyde operates. As the University’s first Compliance Officer, she will expand upon the expertise and leadership that she has shown over many years as part of the Strathclyde community.
“To have two exceptional candidates, one from outside of Strathclyde and one from within, gives the University a valuable balanced approach to these new posts. I very much look forward to working with both of them and anticipate significant contributions that each will make.”
Dr Stuart Fancey said: “I am delighted to be joining the University of Strathclyde as their new University Secretary. Having worked in Scottish higher education for the past 17 years, I know the strengths and distinctiveness of Strathclyde, its mission and people. Across the UK it is regarded as one of our most dynamic and innovative universities and I am excited to play my part in the delivery of the University’s vision and strategy.”
Louise McKean said: “It is an honour to be appointed as the University’s first Compliance Officer. Keeping our colleagues, our students and our visitors safe is central to all that we do and the creation of this role underlines our commitment in this area. I am very much looking forward to playing an enhanced role within Strathclyde and continuing to work with the many fantastic colleagues across the Faculties and Professional Services.”
