University of Strathclyde’s Conferencing & Events team wins in Scottish awards

The University of Strathclyde’s Conferencing & Events team has been named the best in Scotland at a national awards ceremony.

The team was announced as the winner in the Best Scottish Venue & Events Team category of the E Awards, at the ceremony in Edinburgh.

They were recognised for the way in which they differentiate themselves from competitors, their innovative use of space and their constant focus on a high-quality delegate experience.

The awards showcase excellence in the Scottish events industry, celebrating the success of planners, suppliers, venues and events, and this year recognised in particular the resilience of the events and festivals sector through the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Head of Conferencing & Events Gordon Hodge said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have picked up this award! Our submission covered everything from COP26 and former US President Barack Obama’s visit to Strathclyde, to virtual events, video walls, abstract submissions, carbon calculators and graduation ceremonies.

“The period since 2020 really has been a rollercoaster, and much of it hasn’t been easy – but the team has continued to innovate and evolve and has met each and every challenge with their signature enthusiasm and determination.
“We really are delighted to be back on campus and busier than ever, and we’re proud to play our part in showcasing the positive impact that Strathclyde and its partners has on our world.”

Entries were assessed by a panel of leading figures who have helped shape the sector through their influence and expertise. Other contenders for the title of Best Scottish Venue & Events Team included Edinburgh’s Royal Highland Centre and the Royal College of Physicians.
