University of Texas at Austin: UT Austin Arts and Humanities Ranked Among Best in the World
The University of Texas at Austin is No. 5 among U.S. public universities, No. 17 in the U.S. and No. 50 in the world for education in the arts and humanities, according to the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
More than 600 universities from around the world are included in the Times Higher Education rankings this year. The list highlights universities that are leading in the following disciplines: art, performing arts, design, languages, literature, linguistics, history, philosophy, theology, architecture and archaeology.
A number of factors were considered, including teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.
“We’re proud to see the incredible work and impact of the creative and scholarly research of our faculty and students recognized in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings,” said College of Fine Arts Dean Ramón H. Rivera-Servera. “These rankings validate what we already know — that our students receive a world-class education in the arts and humanities at The University of Texas at Austin.”
Technology-focused universities saw a rise across the board in the 2022 rankings, potentially signaling increases in collaboration between the two disciplines. Interdisciplinary study and research are priorities for arts and humanities colleges at UT Austin, including the School of Architecture.
“With disciplines spanning all scales of the built environment, the UT School of Architecture offers students an environment that couples individual exploration with collaborative problem solving to build their capacity to plan, design, and effect change in the world around us,” said Michelle Addington, dean of the School of Architecture. “We never lose sight that our disciplines’ primary role is to serve the public through our professions, and over the years, we have developed a strong curriculum that fosters dialogue, interdisciplinary collaboration, risk-taking, and hands-on learning to give our students and our school a competitive edge.”
UT Austin is the only university in Texas included in the global top 50 for the arts and humanities. Rice University and Texas A&M University rank in the 201-250 range.
“This is a wonderful affirmation of the value of arts and humanities degrees at UT Austin,” said Ann Stevens, dean of the College of Liberal Arts. “Our faculty, staff and students are at the heart of what makes the university and the city of Austin such a dynamic and exciting place to be.”
This is just one of several recent rankings that recognize the university’s academic and research strengths. The university ranked No. 38 among all U.S. universities in U.S. News & World Report’s latest undergraduate rankings. Earlier this year, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings placed UT Austin No. 47 overall in the world and No. 7 among U.S. public universities.
