University of Tokyo: 2021 Autumn Semester Diploma Presentation and Commencement Ceremony held
The University of Tokyo 2021 Autumn Semester Diploma Presentation and Commencement Ceremony was held at Yasuda Auditorium on Friday, September 24, 2021.
The ceremony was held only with graduates who pre-registered and have tested negative for the novel coronavirus on the day, to minimize risk of infection of the novel coronavirus.
The ceremony, which was held in two instances, began at 9:20 a.m. (1st instance) / 11:00 a.m. (2nd instance) with the University of Tokyo Orchestra’s performance (recorded sound). President Fujii Teruo, the executive vice presidents, deans of the Graduate Schools and Faculties then ascended to the stage in their academic gowns.
Following President Fujii’s presentation of diplomas to the students representing the graduating classes of each Graduate School and the College of Arts and Sciences, the president addressed the audience. The students representing the entire graduating class (1st instance: Mr. Paul Joseph Nadeau from the Graduate School of Public Policy, and 2nd instance: Ms. Shafaat Abubakar Ukishima from the College of Arts and Sciences) then gave a speech in response to the president’s address, after which the ceremony was concluded.
A livestream of the ceremony was provided, and watched by many graduates and their families who were unable to attend the ceremony, as well as the general public.
