University of Tokyo: 2022 Autumn Semester Matriculation Ceremony held

The University of Tokyo 2022 Autumn Semester Matriculation Ceremony was held at Yasuda Auditorium on Saturday, October 1, 2022.

The ceremony was held only with new students, in order to minimize risk of infection of the novel coronavirus.

The ceremony began at 10:00 a.m. with the University of Tokyo Orchestra’s performance. President Fujii Teruo, the executive vice presidents, deans of the Graduate Schools and Faculties and the directors of University Institutes then ascended to the stage in their academic gowns.

President Fujii addressed to new students, followed by an address from Deguchi Atsushi, dean of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences. Two new students (Mr. Yu Baisen, a Doctoral student from the Graduate School of Engineering, and Ms. Miyanaga Riko from the College of Arts and Sciences) then took an oath on behalf of the entire incoming class, after which the ceremony was concluded.

A livestream of the ceremony was provided, and watched by many new students and their families who were unable to attend the ceremony, as well as the general public.
