University of Tokyo Hosts Undergraduate Matriculation Ceremony for Academic Year 2024
The University of Tokyo AY 2024 undergraduate matriculation ceremony was held at the Nippon Budokan the morning of Friday, April 12th.
Approximately 2,930 new students and 5,310 members of their families attended the ceremony, making for a total of approximately 8,240 attendees.
President Fujii Teruo, the executive vice presidents, deans of the Faculties and Graduate Schools and the directors of University Institutes went on stage, along with special guests Ms. Yoneda Ayu, JAXA astronaut candidate; and Mr. Muneoka Shoji, chairman of the UTokyo Alumni Association.
President Fujii Teruo gave a speech to the new students on behalf of the university, followed by a speech from Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Mafune Fumitaka. Ms. Yoneda and Mr. Muneoka then gave congratulatory messages to the new students. Next, Ms. Yamagiwa Miu, a student in the College of Arts and Sciences (Humanities and Social Sciences III), took an oath on behalf of the entire incoming class, after which the ceremony was concluded.
A livestream of the ceremony was provided, and watched by many new students and their families who were unable to attend the ceremony, as well as the general public.
