University of Tübingen: Ten years of Germany scholarship at the University of Tübingen
The University of Tübingen celebrates ten years of the Germany Scholarship. Since the summer semester 2011, the funding format organized by the federal and state governments together with universities has been offered in Tübingen. A total of 1,595 students at the University of Tübingen have benefited from the Germany Scholarship to date. More than five million euros had been paid out by March 2021, half of which came from private funds: The funds initially raised by the university will be doubled by the Federal Ministry of Education.
Students from all fields of study who meet certain requirements and who are primarily selected based on their professional performance in connection with social criteria can apply. You will receive an annual grant of 300 euros per month.
“The Deutschlandstipendium has proven to be an outstanding example of a successful partnership between state funding and private commitment and is firmly anchored in our funding culture,” said Rector Professor Bernd Engler on the occasion of the anniversary. He particularly emphasized the commitment of graduates and personalities from business and society, some of whom have been loyal to the University of Tübingen since the start in April 2011.
The largest single donor is the Universitätsbund, the sponsoring association of the University of Tübingen. With more than 1.3 million euros, he has contributed almost half of the funds since 2011, around 850,000 euros from association funds and more than 500,000 euros from donations.
Many scholarships were raised by institutional sponsors such as foundations and companies, who often want to specifically support students in certain fields with their commitment. The proportion of such earmarkings rose from 18 percent in the 2011 summer semester to almost two thirds for the 2021/22 class.
The 195 Germany scholarship holders of the current year have been receiving funding since April 1st. An official handover of the certificate with a ceremony is planned, due to the pandemic situation the date has not yet been set.
