Zurab Bero, born in Georgia in 1982, lives and works in Berlin and Tbilisi, Georgia. He studied fine arts, sculpture and German literature in Berlin and Tbilisi. In 2010 he won the Diffring Prize for Sculpture from the Jacqueline Diffring Foundation. He was visiting professor at the Visual Arts, Architecture & Design School of the Free University in Tbilisi.

In Tübingen he offers a seminar for students from all faculties under the title “Feel the touch”. They should learn molding techniques with the help of which surfaces can be recorded and three-dimensional objects can be produced. For example, body parts, self-modeled or found objects are molded and then cast in plaster of paris or wax.

Touching is one of the most important human sensory experiences. As a result of the corona pandemic, this form of sensual experience was greatly reduced, and contact with surfaces or other people was avoided. The seminar aims to make the quality of surfaces consciously tangible and encourage a haptic dialogue. With the support of the artist, students have the opportunity to carry out their own small projects.

With the “Invited Artist” concept, the University of Tübingen invites internationally renowned and innovative artists to Tübingen, who give students access to contemporary art from different directions. After the Iranian photo artist Mohammad Ghazali and the American concept artist Morgan O’Hara, the Georgian Zurab Bero is the third artist to come to Tübingen as an invited artist.
