University of Vienna: Complex free-space magnetic field textures induced by 3D printed magnetic nanostructures
With a unique 3D printing method, advanced microscopy and simulation techniques, a magnetic double helix similar to human DNA was produced and its behaviour under the influence of magnetic fields was investigated. Magnetic structures with unique magnetic field configurations were found, facilitated solely by the complex 3D nanostructure. These novel methods to structure the magnetic field on the nanoscale offer completely new possibilities for smart materials, particle trapping and magnetic imaging.
