University Of York Appoints Professor As New Deputy Vice-Chancellor
The University of York has announced the appointment of Professor Ken Badcock as its new Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost.
Professor Badcock is currently Senior Vice-Principal at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he also holds the position of Dean of the Doctoral School. In recent years, he held the roles of Acting Principal and Deputy Principal.
The University of York’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charlie Jeffery, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Ken will be joining us here at York, and I’m sure everyone will join me in offering him a very warm welcome. He brings with him a wealth of experience and will be instrumental in taking forward our vision of a university for public good.”
Professor Badcock, said: “I am honoured to be taking up this role. The academic strength and achievements across all three Faculties are evident and well known to me, and the platform that this provides to deliver for the public good is what attracted me to York.
“I am looking forward to meeting academic and professional services staff and learning about the opportunities first hand.”
At Royal Holloway, Professor Badcock leads on Academic Planning and the development and implementation of University Strategy, as well as working closely with the Director of Research and Innovation on research, and Chief Marketing Officer on supporting international student recruitment.
Prior to Royal Holloway, Professor Badcock held several positions at the University of Liverpool, including Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Science and Engineering, as well as being responsible for the University’s relationships in India, the University’s digital research theme and its institutional partnership with Unilever.
Before Liverpool, Professor Badcock worked at the University of Glasgow for 13 years, and he holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Strathclyde, along with a doctorate from the Computing Laboratory at the University of Oxford.
Professor Badcock will succeed York’s current Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, Professor Saul Tendler, who has announced he will be retiring in August 2023.
