University of York brings back YorkTalks with short lectures on global topics

YorkTalks will take place on Wednesday, 11 January at the Ron Cooke Hub at the University – following two-years of being online during the pandemic.

There will be fifteen talks throughout the day, grouped in sessions of four, followed by a live Q&A, on topics including food security, the art of Barbara Hepworth, improving health and wellbeing, and the historical context of the Northern Powerhouse.

Highlights

This year’s highlights include Professor Lina Gega from The Institute of Mental Health Research discussing how to alleviate phobias experienced by children and adolescents, as well as Alex Setchfield from the Department of Biology’s Centre for Novel Agricultural Products, on how he found an opportunity to feed the world with sustainable protein.

Helena Cox from Borthwick Institute for Archives, the University’s first-ever art curator, reveals the range and depth of the art collection at the University, and Dr Shane O’Rourke from the Department of History will share his insights and understanding of modern Russian foreign policy and the invasion of Ukraine as well as Dr Cordula van Wyhe Senior Lecturer who will explore the wondrous history of the powder compact.
