University of York: University of York receives prestigious award for teaching excellence

The award has been made in recognition of work to promote digital accessibility awareness and good practices across the institution by the University’s E-Accessibility Working Group.

The group, which operates as part of the University’s Disability Inclusion Framework, brings together students, academics and professional services staff to make the University’s digital tools and services accessible to all. Their values-based approach focuses on raising awareness of digital accessibility principles, a commitment to collaboration, knowledge sharing and the promotion of best practice.

CATE recognises and rewards collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning and highlights the key role of teamwork in higher education.

Inclusivity

Professor Tracy Lightfoot, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Students at the University of York, said: “I am delighted that the University of York has been successful in receiving an Advance HE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence, and this builds on our recent successes in the National Teaching Fellowship scheme as well as CATE.

“This year’s award to the E-accessibility team showcases their commitment and contribution to digital accessibility across the University, and aligns with our University strategy to provide an education that empowers, and our principles around inclusivity, and collaboration.

“This has been a true collaboration between students, academic departments and professional services teams and we offer our congratulations to all of those involved”.

The team will be invited to attend a celebratory event in Autumn 2022, where their CATE will be awarded.
