University of York: YorkTalks is back with bite-size online research lectures
YorkTalks is taking place online on Wednesday 12 January 2022, and features a series of bite-size presentations from University of York researchers on topics from the Galapagos to outer space.
There will be sixteen short pre-recorded talks, grouped together in sessions of four and followed by a live Q&A. Anyone can attend a single session or all four.
PhD students will also take part in a “Research Spotlight” exhibition displaying their work online throughout the day.
Global
This year’s highlights include: a talk from Dr Maria Bryant in the Department of Health Sciences on how York’s Fix our Food project is working with primary schools across Yorkshire to co-design a healthy, sustainable food system; a talk from Professor Nicola Carslaw in the Department of Environment and Geography on the potentially harmful air pollutants lurking in our homes; and Dr Dusana Dorjee from the Department of Education explores how we can teach children mental health and wellbeing skills to help them deal with global events such as Covid and climate change.
Trailblazing
Professor Matthias Ruth, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at the University of York, said: “Our trailblazing and action-orientated research is at the heart of our mission as a university for public good. YorkTalks is always an exciting opportunity to share this extraordinary and life-changing work with the wider community and this year topics range from global healthcare to tropical forests and South Asian literature. It promises to be another awe-inspiring day and we hope as many people as possible can join us.”.
