UPES organizes flagship event UHackathon 3.0

New Delhi: The third iteration of the flagship event UPES UHACKATHON 3.0, a 24-hour coding marathon kickstarted on August 5, 2022, and concluded on August 6, 2022. The event was inaugurated by UPES Vice Chancellor, Dr Sunil Rai which was followed by regional folk dance and unveiling of the letter from Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi where he applauded the efforts of the organizing team and encouraged and wished all the participants success.

The Inaugural Ceremony had dignitaries like Sri Prakash, President TiE Chapter Dehradun, Chief guest Mr. Arijit Bhattacharyya, Founder and CEO: Virtualinfocom, Founder: World Leader Summit, Founder: Coinnovateventures. The Jury Panel comprised of Industry Experts like Mr. Arijit Bhattacharyya, Mr. Shubham Joshi, Principal Data Scientist, Oracle; Mr. Bhupendra Negi, Senior Frontend Engineer, Agora; Mr. Srirang Srikantha, CEO Tenjin Online; Mr. G Aswin, Director, Strategy, Marketing and Sales, Tenjin Online; Mr. Devendra Prasad, Director, Transformation – Web 3.0, CrossTower INDIA & Mr. Rohit Tondon, Head Products, CrossTower, INDIA. Mr. Vikas Ahuja, CEO of CrossTower – India & Mr. Manoj Motwani, Senior Manager, Growth & Partnerships, CrossTower India joined as guests.

The problem statements were invited from the industry as well as the public sector around themes encompassing Business Intelligence, Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence, social media, Intelligent Transportation, Computational Optimization, Cyber Security, Environment & Ecology, Healthcare, EdTech, and so on. This premier two-day long event saw the participation of over 200 teams from India & SAARC Nations out of which 28 made it to the finale which included 25 National teams from 9 states of India, 2 teams from SAARC NATIONS representing Tribhuvan University from Nepal, and Daffodil International University from Bangladesh and 1 team from Russia represented by Southern Federal University in online mode.

The hackathon was declared open by Dr. TP Singh, Professor & Cluster Head, Informatics Cluster & the convener of the event. The 24-hour intense coding competition witnessed three evaluation rounds followed by a presentation round of the top eight teams. Mr. Samson Masih, Committee Chair of Startups and E-Cell and an active member of the Ph.D. Chamber of Commerce, Uttarakhand, was the Guest of the valedictory session along with the Datacouch team represented by Harshit Gupta- Technical Consultant, Aman Pundir – Tech Lead and Ms. Akanksha Chandola Anthwal- Instructor & Principal Consultant.

The top 8 teams that made it to the Presentation round were T-error 404, Team Déjà vu, Team twins, Team Swagriculture, Team Vyasa, Team Grey Project, Team Summiteer, and Team Aniire of whom the second runner-ups were ‘T-error 404’, comprising of members from UPES and VIT, the first runner ups were team ‘Vyasa’ from Chandigarh University and the winning prize was bagged by two teams ‘Swagriculture’ and ‘Grey Project’, both from UPES.

In addition to the prize money, Tenjin Online is also providing two months’ online internship to team ‘TechMady’ and team ‘Entity’ and team ‘ANIIRE’, both of Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies. CrossTower is also providing offline internship to team ‘TechnoMaits’ of GGSIUP and team ‘Befikre Coders’ of Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies. Special prizes were also awarded to uniquely performing teams which included team ‘Test Data’ (awarded Sleepy Coders), team ‘AV’ (Stuck between Food and Code), team ‘Let See’ (Master of Robo Land) and team ‘Vyasa’ (Electric Currents). Special mention of the team ‘Twins’ of Southern Federal University of Russian Federation was also made, which was deemed by the jury to be quite “superior and hardworking”. This team was awarded the “Best online participant”.

The third edition of UHackathon concluded with a vote of thanks from Ms. Sugandha Sharma, faculty, School of Computer Science in which she thanked the participants, guests, and delegates for attending the event and the organizing committee for their unrelenting support which made the event a huge success.
