Upgrade to University of Auckland ClockTower entrance

Improvements to the main entrance of the University of Auckland’s ClockTower mean access will be temporarily diverted.

Improvement works to ClockTower main entrance

From Monday 16 January, the main front entrance to the ClockTower on Princes Street will be closed for works to improve access. These are expected to last until 31 July 2023.

Access into the ClockTower will be available via the rear doors, and there will be an alternative route from Princes Street via the accessible pathway between the ClockTower and Alfred Nathan House, as shown in the map below. This route will be clearly signposted.

The works will significantly improve access to the ClockTower, particularly for visitors requiring mobility or wheelchair access. This will include a new stone landing and stairway at the front entrance, a new accessible platform lift and pathway, refurbished exterior doors and the installation of an actuator to the interior doors. The ‘temporary’ ramp that has been in place for years will be dismantled. The construction works will be protected by hoardings to ensure public health and safety are maintained.

This is a necessary and long overdue project that will cause some temporary inconvenience, but it will significantly improve both access to the ClockTower and the appearance of this flagship building.
