Uppsala University expert receives Ulla and Stig Holmquist award

Belén Martín-Matute, professor at Stockholm University, has been named recipient of the Ulla and Stig Holmquist Scientific Prize in Organic Chemistry 2023. She is being rewarded for her pioneering development of new reagents and reactions in organic chemistry.

The Ulla and Stig Holmquist scientific prize in organic chemistry is awarded annually to a researcher with a mainly national operational background in the subject of organic chemistry and who has made pioneering research efforts in this field. The price sum is SEK 1.6 million.

Justification:

Belén Martín-Matute, professor at Stockholm University is awarded for his pioneering development of new reagents and reactions in organic chemistry. A main theme of the research is the metal complex-driven catalysis to make synthetic chemistry environmentally friendly, especially for the formation of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds. Martín-Matute’s research is of the highest international class and has great influence on central parts of organic chemistry.
