Uppsala University’s Law Programme Emerges as the Top Choice Among Applicants

The applications to higher education in the spring are now in. The total number of unique applicants to Uppsala University is 55,051, an increase of 1.2 per cent compared with the previous year. The Law Programme has the highest number of applicants, followed by the Medicine Programme and the Psychology Programme.

More than 239,000 people in the whole country have applied to programmes and courses – up by more than 8,000 or nearly 4 per cent from spring semester 2023. The Law Programme at Uppsala University comes in fifth place in the list of most popular programmes, with 1,055 first choice applicants.

Uppsala University has attracted a total of 55,051 applicants, 1.2 per cent higher than the number of applicants for spring semester 2023, which was 54,398. The number of unique applicants to Campus Gotland is 9,126, down 3.2 per cent compared with the 2023 spring semester.

The University offers a total of 1,929 application options (courses and programmes) for the 2024 spring semester, as against 1,921 for spring semester 2023. The number of application options belonging to Campus Gotland is 182 in spring semester 2024, compared with 183 in spring 2023.

  • Medicine Programme (3,436 applicants)
  • Psychology Programme (2,821 applicants)
  • Bachelor’s Programme in Business and Economics (2,593 applicants)
  • Nursing Programme, Uppsala (2,329 applicants)

Most popular first semester (‘A’) courses (full-time, not distance education):

  • Business Studies A (967 applicants)
  • Economics A (819 applicants)
  • Psychology A (795 applicants)
  • Media and Communication Studies A (498 applicants)
  • Sociology and Social Psychology A (457 applicants)

Most applications for courses at Campus Gotland:

  • Leadership and Coaching, 5 credits (1,766 applicants)
  • Leadership and Conflict Management, 5 credits (1,411 applicants)
  • Project Management, 5 credits (962 applicants)
  • Introduction to Programming with Java, 7.5 credits (674 applicants)
  • Graphic Design for Games, 7.5 credits (550 applicants)

The only programme at Campus Gotland starting in spring semester 2024 is the Nursing Programme, with 310 applicants.
