Ural Federal University Alumni Association in PRC Celebrates Tenth Anniversary

Several dozen alumni of the Ural Federal University, as well as students currently studying at universities in China, gathered at a solemn meeting in Beijing dedicated to the anniversary of the Alumni Association of UPI, USU and UrFU. Victor Koksharov, Rector of the University, told the audience about the development and achievements of the university.

“We have already trained more than 1,200 specialists for China, many of whom have achieved high government positions and public recognition. Currently, the university is developing cooperation with the Hainan Institute of Economics and Business and the North China University of Water Resources and Hydropower, where now 1061 students from China are studying under joint programs. This is also why the idea of creating new branches of the Chinese Alumni Association in the cities of Zhengzhou and Haikou arose,” said the head of UrFU.

Today there are more than 1500 students from China studying at UrFU, one-third of all students from other countries: this is the maximum figure in the recent history of Ural University. The association plans to attract Chinese young people to study. To this end, the university will continue such projects as Meetings at UrFU, Mentors, Career Trajectory, etc.

“We all know how important it is to surround a student who comes to study in another country with attention and care. Together with the Chinese community, we will continue to work on the adaptation of children who study and will study at UrFU. Our alumni in China actively promote the employment of their fellow countrymen who are young specialists. It is very important as well as material support of the students, that is why the Association will continue to initiate scholarship programs. The idea to establish its endowment in the fund of the university, voiced by the Chinese Association at the jubilee meeting, will greatly contribute to this. After all, the income from the endowment can be used, among other things, for personal scholarships for students from China,” said Alexander Ponomaryov, Executive Director of the Alumni Association, at the meeting with alumni.

The graduates received diplomas and letters of gratitude from the Rector’s hands for active cooperation. They expressed their appreciation to the university for education and confidence that there are all conditions for cooperation between the universities of Russia and China.
