Ural federal university: Ambassador of Yemen Dr. Ahmed Salem Saleh Al-Waheishi Visited UrFU
Today the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Yemen to the Russian Federation, Dr. Ahmed Salem Saleh Al-Waheishi met with the Rector of Ural Federal University Viсtor Koksharov.
The Ambassador and the Rector discussed the possibility of increasing the number of students from Yemen at UrFU, areas of cooperation, partnership possibilities between UrFU and universities of Yemen, as well as the participation of Yemeni students in the Universiade – 2023.
“We are extremely interested in the development of cooperation between educational and scientific centers of Yemen and Russian universities, in particular the Ural Federal University. Without waiting for Yemeni rectors’ visit to UrFU, we can move on to active actions. The Russian language is very popular in Yemen, and students are willing to study it remotely,” the Ambassador stressed.
In his turn, Victor Koksharov invited Dr. Al-Waheishi to come back to Yekaterinburg in 2023, during the World Summer Student Games, and noted that the UrFU Institute of Economics and Management considers the Yemen University of Science and Technology to be a possible partner.
After the meeting with UrFU Rector, the Ambassador of Yemen met with Yemeni students of UrFU to answer the students’ questions and left a message in the University’s commemorative book. At the moment 28 citizens of the Republic of Yemen study at UrFU and most of them came to talk to the Ambassador.
Sergey Kurochkin, Vice-Rector for International Relations of UrFU, showed the Ambassador around the library of UrFU, where an exhibition of editions dedicated to the 35th anniversary of UrFU Publishing House is being held. The exhibition features about 2,500 books divided by years and series, such as “Outstanding Scientists of the University,” “Student Publishing” etc. The books were collected from different departments of Ural Federal University, and some of them were presented from personal collections of their authors. The exhibition includes a collection of academic, scientific and fiction books, published between 1986 and 2021. The Ambassador of Yemen noted the high quality of the book printing, as well as the volume of scientific literature. By the way, Dr. Ahmed Salem Saleh Al-Waheishi has a degree in chemistry and his academic work was related to the oil refining industry. The Ambassador and the Provost also discussed the possibility of publishing his articles in UrFU scientific journals.
