Ural Federal University Awards Yeltsin Scholarships To 90 Undergraduate And Graduate Students
The Ural Federal University held a ceremony of awarding certificates for scholarships named after the first President of Russia. Every year the best undergraduate and graduate students of Ural Federal University who have passed the corresponding competition become Yeltsin scholarship recipients. Scholarship holders demonstrate not only excellent academic performance, but also achievements in research, creative, sports and social activities.
Victor Koksharov, Rector of Ural Federal University, congratulated the recipients and presented them with certificates.
“The awarding of Yeltsin scholarships is a tradition that became part of the history of the university. In the beginning the scholarship was awarded by Boris Yeltsin himself, and then by his wife. To receive a scholarship, you have shown great effort, demonstrated a love for your work. You are at the top of the best. Many of you also receive other named scholarships. May your dreams come true,” said the rector.
There are 79 graduate and 11 undergraduate students at Ural Federal University among the scholarship recipients for the academic year 2022/23. Some of them became scholarship recipients for the second or even third time. Margarita Vafina, a second-year Master’s student of Oriental and African Studies at the Ural Institute of Humanities, is an absolute record-holder: she has received the scholarship for the fifth time. Margarita specializes in the study of various aspects of Turkish foreign policy and security issues in the Middle East. She has 19 scientific articles, 36 conferences, and an internship at Istanbul Aydın University.
“It is a great honor for me to receive such an honorable and significant award for the fifth time. This means that a large amount of active academic and scientific work has not been done in vain over the years, and there is space to grow and move forward in this direction. I wish all those who are at the beginning of their academic path to show themselves in different areas, to do research, to publish and to definitely participate in the competition,” noted Margarita.
In addition to the Boris Yeltsin scholarship, the graduate student receives scholarships from the President and the Government of the Russian Federation, the Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation scholarship, an increased scholarship for students for achievements in academic activities, and an increased scholarship for achievements in research activities.
All scholarship recipients were awarded the badge “Excellent Student”. They received a sum of six months’ pay on their bank cards at once. To continue receiving a scholarship in the second semester, it is necessary to pass the winter exam session only with excellent marks.
