Ural Federal University Delegation Embarks on Strategic Visit to Almaty
The delegation of the Ural Federal University headed by Rector Victor Koksharov visited the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In Almaty representatives of UrFU took part in the International Conference “Innovations and Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials – Relevant Components of Economic Diversification”. The event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the National Center for Integrated Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the 15th anniversary of the National Academy of Natural Sciences of Kazakhstan.
Within the framework of the conference Oleg Sheshukov, the Director of the Institute of New Materials and Technologies of UrFU, made a presentation “Utilization of technogenic formations of metallurgy and municipal waste”. Victor Koksharov and the Director General of the Center for Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Another important part of the visit was to discuss the prospects of cooperation between UrFU and the R&D center “Kazakhstan Engineering”.
Representatives of UrFU also met with the management of Satbayev University and Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications. The sides discussed joint research activities and the education of students. During the meeting, colleagues from Kazakhstan were invited to participate in the Summer University 2025 project.
Of course, the program of the visit would be incomplete without a meeting with the alumni. During the extended meeting of the Board of the Kazakhstan Alumni Association of UPI, UrSU and UrFU Victor Koksharov congratulated the Chairman of the Board, the President of the National Academy of Natural Sciences of Kazakhstan Nurtay Abykayev on the 10th anniversary of the Association.
“Our countries are closely linked historically, geographically, and culturally. We have much in common: common roots, common history, and similar values. And we have a huge potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in science, education, culture, and business. For many years the Ural Federal University has been actively developing relations with Kazakh universities and scientific organizations. We implement joint educational programs and conduct scientific research. Together we train highly qualified specialists and implement advanced developments of scientists in enterprises. All this contributes significantly to the development of our countries. I am confident that our cooperation will only strengthen and bear new fruits”, noted the Rector of UrFU at the end of the visit.
