Ural Federal University Freshmen Kickstart Their Student Journey with a Vibrant Celebration

A big celebration for more than 8,000 first-year students “First Day at the Ural Federal University” was held on September 1, on the square in front of the main building. The rector and the guests gave a start to the new academic year and awarded gifts to some of the students: winners of the All-Russian Olympiad of School Students, first-year students with the highest scores of the Unified State Exam, participants of the “Test Drive in the Ural Federal District” campaign.

“From now on, you are full members of our friendly university family. You have unlimited opportunities: you can become the best in your studies, science, sports, creativity, and projects. After all, UrFU, as one of the largest and leading universities in the country, provides such opportunities. We are developing, building new campuses, and have just commissioned a world-class campus for 8,500 people. I wish you, as Pasternak wrote, to live, think, feel, love, and do good deeds,” said Victor Koksharov, the rector of the university.

The festival gave a chance to show their talents on stage not only to the creative teams of the Ural Federal University, but also to the first-year students themselves. They performed dances, songs and even tried themselves as presenters.

After the official part, the first-year students were invited to a Fair of Student Opportunities. Students had the opportunity to learn about the extracurricular life of the university, as well as take part in the prize draw, collecting stickers on route sheets.

On Knowledge Day, the Ural Federal University also hosted the grand opening of an art object dedicated to the World Youth Festival. The art object includes the festival’s logo – a stylized image of human figures holding hands. The festival’s symbol is based on the idea of a multipolar world, where people of different character, faith, culture, and beliefs live. At the same time, it is united by the desire to live in a world where everyone can remain themselves – live and develop the way they like, without imposing their values on others. There is also a QR code placed on each art object, which allows students to instantly apply for participation.
