Ural Federal University Hosts Dialogue on Regional Enterprise Development

The members of the Council of the Sverdlovsk Regional Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs devoted their regular meetings to the prospects of scientific and technological development of the enterprises of the Sverdlovsk Region. The meeting was held the day before at the Ural Federal University.

“We can see that the state is focusing on the scientific and technological sphere. In February, the strategy for the scientific and technological development of the Russian Federation was approved. National projects of technological leadership will be approved by the end of the year. The President of Russia has set the goal of increasing spending on research and development to 2% of GDP by 2030. It is expected that a significant contribution to the achievement of these goals of technological leadership will be made by large enterprises oriented to the federal and international markets”, reminded the President of the Union, Head of the Supervisory Board of UrFU Dmitry Pumpyansky.

At the same time, Pumpyansky emphasizes, the enterprises are located in the regions.

“Large and medium-sized enterprises are integrated into the regional economy, depending on the level of socio-economic development of the regions and, at the same time, largely determine this level. Therefore, we consider it extremely important for regional business to participate in the discussion of the prospects of scientific and technological development of the country, in the formation and implementation of federal programs and activities”, he added.

Dmitry Afanasyev, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, spoke about the expected changes in the government’s approach to the training of specialists at universities.

“Together with the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation, we are moving to new principles of formation of admission control figures. By the end of the year, we will have a forecast of the demand for specialists, based, among other things, on data from companies. Those who are currently studying will be monitored, including the employment of graduates”, he says.

This allows us to see how much demand there is for graduates in certain specialties from certain universities.

“We are located in the industrial center of the country. This is both a competitive advantage and an additional responsibility. In 2010 we started sectoral research and development with a budget of 250 million roubles. Today we are solving strategic tasks and becoming a technology factory. We have created a serious infrastructure and small technology companies. As part of the Priority 2030 program, we have set ourselves the task of creating a world-class R&D center with a high level of technological readiness”, said Victor Koksharov, Rector of UrFU, about the university’s role.
