Ural Federal University Launches Summer University Project

Victor Koksharov, UrFU rector, met with the accompanying participants of the Summer University 2023 project on July 20. He expressed his gratitude to the guests for the visit and told them about the life of one of the leading universities in Russia these days.

“We have done our best to prepare a program that would interest all of you,” Koksharov stated. – This is also a very serious experience for us, and we would like to make this event a tradition. Next year we are looking forward to welcoming students from your countries back to Ekaterinburg. The UrFU is one of the largest and most diversified universities in Russia, it is widely represented in various international rankings and offers great opportunities for higher education and research. It is the largest university in Russia in terms of state-funded enrollment – this year we will admit 9,876 people. In addition, we plan to take another 10,000 people on a contract basis.”

We would like to remind you that the Summer University project was launched at UrFU on July 10. About 300 students from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Serbia, Brazil, India, Vietnam, Colombia, Yemen, Egypt and Turkmenistan came to the university.

“The Summer University was a great experience for me,” said Dilnoza Bobomurodova, a faculty member at the Tajik International University of Foreign Languages. – The city of Ekaterinburg and UrFU made a great impression on me and my students. It was very interesting for me to get acquainted with many digital technologies for use in the educational process. Nowadays students are representatives of the digital generation, it is important to speak to them in their language so that they can learn how to use technology correctly to gain knowledge. We have been clearly shown how to do this right here, and I now have a lot of ideas that I want to implement. I am going to use the experience that I have gained back in my country, in Dushanbe.”

Elena Shiley, Deputy Head of the Pedagogical and Methodological Department of the Minsk State Linguistic University of Belarus, also thanked the organizers of the Summer University and expressed her interest in further cooperation.

“We are amazed by the size of the university, its partners, its possibilities,” said Elena Shiley. – We are leaving with a sense of achievement. We are very interested in the points of contact towards digital linguistics and project-based learning. Our students will be looking for opportunities to continue the projects they started here in the form of theses and dissertations. All this will be very useful for them. The Summer University is an excellent intercultural experience – students interact with people from different countries, learn to communicate, gain knowledge and discover new horizons. This is a great advantage of the Summer University.”
