Ural Federal University Makes The First Episode Of A Reality Show About Science

The Ural Federal University has launched a reality show about science called “Laboratorka” (Ed. – Student laboratory sessions as part of the curriculum). The four students will get to know the university’s laboratories, how scientific research is conducted, and try their hand at being young scientists in physics and biology. The first episode is available on the university’s social networks.

“In the first series, students who have just graduated from high school will meet their mentors and test their knowledge of physics and botany. They will learn that it is possible to spend a fun and interesting summer in the laboratory, with test tubes and measuring instruments. For two months, biologists will test plants that contain useful substances, try to extract these components and create cosmetics from them. Physicists will get acquainted with solar panels: they will learn where and under what conditions they can be used, how to improve their properties and how to send them into space,” explain the organizers of the reality show at UrFU.

The main roles in “Laboratorka” are played by former students who showed interest in science at an early age. They are assisted by experienced mentors who have a lot of cool scientific research experience: Aleksandr Ermoshin, Senior Researcher at the UrFU Research Laboratory “Biotechnology of Components Maintenance and Restoration of Natural and Transformed Biosystems”, and Ivan Zhidkov, Head of the Laboratory of Photovoltaic Materials at the UrFU.

The show is aimed first of all at university applicants to show them the opportunities offered by the Ural Federal University in science and studies. The peculiarity of the project is that not professors, but peers of the applicants will talk about complicated things in simple terms.

The reality show about the scientific adventures of Ekaterinburg schoolchildren will continue throughout the summer, with new episodes being released once a week.
