Ural Federal University: Mongolian Power Industry Development Contributes to University Research
Scientific developments of the Ural Federal University can be used at the largest energy companies in Mongolia. This was discussed at the meetings between their managers and Victor Koksharov, the rector of the Ural Federal University. The decision was made to send a joint team of power engineers and metallurgists from the university to the capital of Mongolia.
For example, for Ulaanbaatar Combined Heat and Power Plant 4 (CHP-4), headed by Urjindorj Tumurhuyag, a graduate of UPI (now UrFU), university specialists are ready to offer a new system to control the operating parameters of the boiler unit. For the capital’s CHP-3 they suggest improving the heat-exchange equipment of turbine units.
“Our capabilities include analytical review of methods of preservation of CHP boiler units, reduction of dust outflow from technological units heated with solid fuel, assessment of equipment reliability indicators. Our Mongolian colleagues are very interested in them. We are glad to see the graduates of our heat power and electrical engineering departments at the industry’s enterprises. Obviously, their contribution to the development of the country was facilitated by the knowledge acquired in the Urals,” says Sergey Sarapulov, Director of the Ural Power Engineering Institute.
Personnel training and advanced training of plant employees is also an important item on the agenda of the university delegation’s meetings with the heads of enterprises. Five employees of CHP-4 have already been sent to UrFU and are now taking a Russian language course. The language barrier remains the main obstacle to the development of cooperation.
Representatives of the Institute of New Materials and Technologies also joined the discussion with the companies. The Mongolian colleagues are interested in developing a training program for metallurgists, as well as research on austenitic steels.
