Ural Federal University: More than 75 Thousand People Participated in Career Guidance Events

Ural Federal University conducts many projects for high school students. Due to this, students from all over Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States get acquainted with the university and increase their chances of enrolling at Ural Federal University. Exam preparation courses, Olympiads and championships, “Test drive” – the pre-university preparation team works on these and many other things. In the latest issue of the UrFU newspaper (No. 2, January 31) Maxim Shnyrev, the head of Division for Continuing Education and Career Guidance at UrFU, talked about key projects for 2021 and plans for 2022.

The year 2021 was successful for the Ural Federal University system of pre-university training, despite the remaining covidual restrictions: the number of participants in competitions and career guidance events for high school and college students increased by 5-10%, with over 75,000 participants in total. The Ural Federal University also became one of the five most popular universities of Russia among applicants according to the results of Maximum Education company and Admission Navigator portal.

Active work takes place not only in Russia: indicators on attracting applicants from neighboring countries have been achieved through face-to-face and online events, working with partners in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

A new event for Ural Federal University last year was the National Olympiad for high school students in economics. In March, the university hosted 355 participants from 55 regions of Russia. They competed for the opportunity to enter the university without taking the Unified State Examination. The students’ papers were checked by a competent jury, which included leading experts in economics from all over Russia, including employees of the UrFU Graduate School of Economics and Management.

“The National School Olympics is a sport of high achievements. The most talented high school students from all regions of Russia have come to us, and it’s already an honor to host such kids in Ekaterinburg,” Maxim Shnyrev emphasized.

Another important project for the university is the Unilab high school students’ research laboratory. It helps 95 schoolchildren from small towns in the Sverdlovsk and Kurgan Regions to improve their knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and social science in order to successfully participate in Olympiads and get into a prestigious university. Participants study remotely with teachers and then meet at full-time intensives on the basis of the Selen boarding house. The project is supported by the Worthy is the Best private charitable foundation.

Ural Federal University also acts as a co-organizer of major national projects: the “I am a Professional” Student Olympiad, a case championship for high school students in economics and entrepreneurship, the “In Your Own Words” essay championship, and the International Financial Security Olympiad.

This year it is planned to continue the practice of holding the final stage of the National School Olympics at the university. In 2022 the best in physical education will meet at Ural Federal University.

“The university is doing a lot of work to develop e-courses for schoolchildren and implement hybrid learning formats. Also, preparation courses for entrance exams for secondary vocational education graduates are being developed,” Maxim Shnyrev shared his plans.
