Ural Federal University: New Campus Will Increase Talented Applicants and Researchers Flow

The creation of a world-class university campus in Ekaterinburg, as well as the development of the Ural Interregional Research and Education Center (UIREC) were the topics of the meeting between Vladimir Yakushev, the authorized representative of the Russian President, and Victor Koksharov, the rector of the Ural Federal University.

The Head of the University talked about the development of the new campus of the university, a part of which will be the village of the FISU World University Games 2023 in Ekaterinburg.

“The most important legacy of next year’s World Summer Student Games for the university, the city and the region will be a complex of dormitories, sports facilities and administrative buildings. Being part of the federal program to build world-class campuses and the emergence of modern infrastructure, including academic buildings, will allow us to increase the flow of talented applicants and researchers,” said rector.

Integration of one of the strongest university lyceums in the country – Specialized Educational and Scientific Center of UrFU (SUNC UrFU) – into the campus infrastructure will attract more talented high school students from all over the country to the region, Vladimir Yakushev noted. Such a decision is in line with the objectives of reducing the shortage of qualified personnel and accelerating economic growth, set by the President of Russia.

In addition, Vladimir Yakushev noted the role of projects of the world-class Ural Interregional Research and Education Center in the integration of education, science, and industry.

“The Ural Federal University is not only a center of talent attraction, but also a connecting link in the industry-science-education triangle, due to which the projects included in the UIREC portfolio will significantly increase both the potential of Russian science and the social and economic achievements of the Ural Federal District enterprises,” Yakushev said.

According to Victor Koksharov, technological and educational programs of UIREC, as well as projects implemented by the center participants contribute to the solution of personnel problems and strengthening of the high-tech sector of the county’s industry.
