Ural Federal University: Orientalists and Diplomats Come to the University

Islam in Russia, Russian-Chinese cooperation in higher education, the Middle East in international relations, the international situation of the Russian Federation – these and other aspects will be discussed by participants of international conferences, which are held this week at Ural Federal University. Conferences are devoted to the 20th anniversary of the Department (Faculty) of International Relations of the Ural Federal University, and focused on expanding cooperation between Russian and foreign specialists in Oriental Studies, international relations, political and historical sciences working in various professional fields in Russia and Asian and African countries.

“All of the topics that the experts will discuss are on the cutting edge of international relations and foreign policy. The first conference deals with Eastern and Asian issues, the youth conference covers the CIS countries, and the Chempalov Readings immerse guests in the history of international relations,” says Victoria Belyaeva, Director of the UrFU Department of International Relations.

Islamic scholars, Orientalists, diplomats, and international relations specialists will discuss interaction between peoples and cultures, vectors of Russia’s foreign policy development, prospects for cooperation with CIS countries and China, historical aspects of international relations, and prospects for regional security. The events include open lectures, roundtables, creative meetings, and plenary sessions.

On November 14-15, the International Scientific Conference “Paths and Countries: Civilizations of the East in Historical Dynamics” will be held. Participants will discuss spatial mobility, migration, travel, periods in the history of Asia and Africa, and Russian foreign policy in the East.

On November 16-18, the International Student Scientific Conference “Youth Cooperation in the CIS: Prospects and Opportunities for Interaction in the Commonwealth” will take place. Russian and foreign students, theoretical and practical experts will take part in it. They will discuss historical ties of the CIS countries, denote the problems of the CIS countries’ positioning on the international scene and touch upon the laws for cooperation of various organizations with the CIS countries.

The week will conclude with the All-Russian Scientific Conference with International Participation V Chempalov Readings (November 17-18). Teachers of universities, employees of research organizations, archivists, graduate students will discuss the policy of the USSR in the international arena, the role in the transformation of the system of international relations and in world politics in the 20th century.
