Ural Federal University Presents World Class Campus Development Roadmap In Ekaterinburg
Artificial intelligence, microelectronics, and other advanced digital technologies will be the main focus of the world-class campus that will be built in Ekaterinburg as part of the national project “Science and Universities”. The Sverdlovsk Region was the first one to present and approve a development roadmap until 2030.
The roadmap was developed by the Ural Federal University in cooperation with regional authorities, business, and the expert community. It describes the development of the “Regional digital transformation center” project. Some of the facilities, such as student dormitories, will be transferred to the university by the end of this year after the International Festival of University Sports in 2023.
“In the roadmap, we have paid a lot of attention to creating a comfortable and accessible environment for students, faculty and scholars. We also note the importance of integrating the campus into the urban environment. The campus will develop advanced digital technologies. These include artificial intelligence, digital modeling, and microelectronics. All of this is in line with the objectives of the national project “Science and Universities”. From the perspective of the region’s digital transformation, the campus’ capabilities will be in demand in the development of such areas as smart region, digital society economy, sustainable development, and digital ESG business transformation,” said Victor Koksharov, the UrFU Rector.
The campus will include the sites of the UrFU Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies, UrFU Graduate School of Economics and Management and the specialized Research and Educational Center.
Victor Koksharov noted that the Research and Educational Center will provide targeted education of schoolchildren – future students of the campus with a professional orientation to the digital directions of the future.
In addition to other details, the roadmap includes checkpoints for achieving general parameters: activities to monitor the development of the campus, the achievement of socio-economic impact, and information transparency.
