Ural Federal University: Schoolchildren from Donbass Visited the University

UrFU International Office with the help of UrFU Museum Director organized a tour of the university for school students from Bubka Donetsk School of Olympic Reserve.

The children from Donetsk visited the library, auditorium and museum of Ural Federal University in the main building of the university and learned about the academic opportunities of the students.

A presentation of UrFU and the Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Youth Policy was held in UrFU Museum. Sergey Tushin, Vice-Rector for International Relations, made a welcoming speech.

Evgeny Shurmanov, Director of the Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Youth Policy, told the participants about the Institute, its programs and distinguished Olympic alumni.

International students of UrFU from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Cameroon and Ecuador also met with the schoolchildren. International students told how they got to Ural Federal University, about their programs, various student activities at the university and comfortable life in Ekaterinburg.

“UrFU is an excellent university without any exaggeration. You should have no doubts when choosing a place to study, the main thing is to decide on a program,” stressed Nursultan Akmatov, head of the Tajik Association.

Students Tavi Bryan (Cameroon), Head of the African Association, and Cañar Viegaz Melani (Ecuador), Head of the Latin American Association, noted that the university provides support and tries to help each student from all around the world: “We were able to adapt quickly, even without knowing Russian at first,” said the students.

Sabina Smetanovskaya, Chairman of the United Nations Student Organization, spoke about student organizations (Student Union, Language Club etc.) that unite UrFU students, provide support, give them an opportunity to develop their talents, learn languages and cultures of different countries, organize various cultural, educational and sports events.

The guests from Donbass were fascinated by the university, its beautiful campus, open and friendly international environment. The future students expressed their interest in applying to Ural Federal University. Primarily, they are interested in sports programs: soccer, boxing, and volleyball. In Ekaterinburg, the schoolchildren are at a training camp at the Olympic Reserve School No. 1.
