Ural Federal University: Scientific Success of the University Was Noted at the Meeting of the Supervisory Board

The merits in the promotion of Ural Federal University in QS subject rankings were noted at the meeting of the university’s Supervisory Board, which was chaired by Dmitry Pumpyanskiy. UrFU currently ranks second in the number of QS subject rankings among the 5-100 project universities.

“In 2020, for the first time, we entered three subject rankings at once – the top-100 group. At the same time, we moved up a significant number of positions in four other rankings, which shows our successful scientific advancement in the global space,” said the university’s rector Victor Koksharov.

The successes in Ural Federal University’s publication activity were also noted. More than 1,000 academic staff have three or more publications in Scopus and Web of Science over the past three years, and the number of unique publications in 2020 has increased to 3,959.The program for attracting scientists to postdoc positions is being successfully implemented. The UrFU Postdoc Program won the All-Russian contest of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science “Best Personnel Practices in Education and Science” in the category “Best Personnel Practice in Attracting Young Scientists and Researchers.

“UrFU has 31 foreign scientists in postdoctoral positions. The annual increase in postdoc articles indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases exceeds 40%. In 2020, more than 30% of the total are articles in first quartile journals, and 54% are articles in first and second quartile journals,” said UrFU Vice Rector for Science Alexander Germanenko.
