Ural Federal University Strengthening Cooperation in Yemen
The Ural Federal University was visited by Dr. Ahmed Salem Saleh Al-Wahishi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Yemen to the Russian Federation. He met with the university administration and talked with students from Yemen. Currently 36 students from this country are studying at the UFU. Most of them are studying at the Engineering School of Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Control Systems.
“I am very happy to come to this beautiful university, which has great prestige in the world. Ekaterinburg is a developed industrial city and this is very attractive for our students. They want to gain experience and knowledge to find a great job in their homeland. Russia has good relations with the Arab world, which means that many people want to study here. The world is developing rapidly technologically, and the UrFU is at the forefront of all these processes. We need specialists in Information Technology, Engineering, Economics and Energy,” said Dr. Ahmed Salem.
During the meeting special attention was paid to the support of the study of the Russian language in the Republic of Yemen. In this regard, the use of relevant online courses is promising, as well as various online events with schools and universities in Yemen. The annual regional forum “Days of Oriental Cultures” held at the UrFU is also of great importance.
“In Yemen, a number of universities have Russian language programs, after which you can go to Russia to study. Languages unite us, they are bridges. Russian is the great language of Tolstoy and Pushkin. We have at least one person in every family who speaks Russian,” the Ambassador noted.
The question of organizing lectures by professors from the Department of Oriental Studies at the Ural Institute of Humanities of the Ural Federal University is currently being discussed. It is also planned to implement joint research projects and conduct joint research in the economic and humanitarian spheres. The university will also study Yemeni culture and security issues in the Middle East.
Of course, the International University Sports Festival, which will be held in Ekaterinburg in August, can play an important role in the development of bilateral relations. The relevant package of documents has already been sent to the Yemen University Sports Federation. A total of six universities have been invited to take part in the festival.
“Through sports, we can build bridges of friendship between countries. We are interested in having our students participate in such a big sports festival. They will be glad that it happened,” Dr. Ahmed Salem emphasized.
