Ural Federal University Student Enters Russia’s Book of Records

Boris Bredikhin, a Master’s student at the Institute of Fundamental Education of the Ural Federal University, and ultra-triathlete Sergey Shelapugin set a record in triathlon. They completed a 113 km distance in the shortest time, with a sport tandem triathlete and a triathlete with cerebral palsy.

The record was registered in 2023 at the Ironstar start in Ekaterinburg. Ironstar is Russia’s largest series of triathlon events, attracting around 10,000 athletes each year to compete in unique locations and test their strength. Boris completed all three stages of the ‘semi-ironstar’ triathlon race, which included 1.93 km of open water swimming, 90 km of cycling, and 21 km of running, in just 6 hours and 11 minutes.

“I want to thank Sergey Shelapugin, the Gene of Humanism project, and the charity fund for the development of inclusion in sport #MoreThanYouCan for giving me the chance to participate in the Ironstar Triathlon. The competition took place in Ekaterinburg for the first time. It was a true test of strength, with the cold waters of the Iset River, strong gusty winds, steep climbs on the bike path, and a technically challenging running stage”, says Boris Bredikhin.

Boris and Sergey completed the 113 km triathlon distance together, becoming the first sports tandem in our country to do so. This achievement has been recorded in the Russian Book of Records.
