The qualifying round of the sixth season of the “I am a Professional” Olympiad is over. Over 17 days, 2,158 students from Ural Federal University took part in it: the university was among the top 15 in terms of the number of participants in Russia. More than 121,000 students from different regions competed during this stage.
The qualifying round started on November 18 and was held online. Students were able to test their knowledge in one or several tests in 73 fields ranging from journalism to space exploration. Construction, Software Engineering and Management were the most popular among Ural Federal University students.
The results were also summarized for the four areas of the Olympiad, organized by UrFU: “Software Engineering”, “Construction”, “Electronics, Radio Engineering and Communication Systems”, “Material Science and Technology of Materials”. A total of 5,377 students completed the tasks of online tests.
“To prepare effectively for the qualifying stage, we organized a series of webinars, where we introduced students to the testing system, topics, and types of questions. This year we also invited experts to the webinars, who talked about the prospects of the industry. So, the webinars were useful not only within the framework of the Olympiad,” said Maksim Shnyrev, Head of the Division for Continuing Education and Career Guidance at UrFU.
The results of the qualifying stage will be known at the end of December. Students who successfully pass this stage and score enough points will go on to the final stage. It will last from February to April 2023. The results of the competition will be summed up in May.
In February, the Engineering Olympus winter school for participants in the Olympiad will take place in Sochi. More than 100 active and gifted students who successfully passed an additional competition of motivation letters will be able to visit it. The selection started on December 5.
Engineering Olympus School is a practice-oriented educational forum organized by Ural Federal University with the support of the Pipe Metallurgical Company and Corporate University TMK2U. The school’s program includes two areas: Material Science and Material Technologies and Software Engineering.
Diploma students of the “I am a Professional” Olympiad will be awarded prizes: benefits for admission to graduate, postgraduate and residency programs of leading Russian universities and the opportunity to undertake an internship in a major specialized company. Gold, silver and bronze medalists of the Olympiad will also receive cash prizes of up to 300,000 rubles.
