Ural Federal University Supports Uzbek Universities in Training Physicists for Cancer Centers
The Ural Federal University will help universities in Uzbekistan to train specialists in Medical Physics for Oncology Centers in the program “Radiation Safety Technologies”, which they are interested in. This was announced to TASS by the rector of the Ural Federal University Victor Koksharov at the International Industrial Exhibition INNOPROM.
“Medical physicists who can plan the types and doses of exposures to organs are in high demand. Our graduate program in Radiation Safety Technologies can help. We have experience in training medical physicists for oncology centers. That is why our colleagues are interested in this program. We are ready for cooperation and interested in training such specialists for Uzbekistan,” Victor Koksharov said.
He explained that in the Institute of Engineering Physics of Samarkand State University there is the Department of Nuclear Physics and a research laboratory. According to the government’s decision, the Radiology Department of Samarkand Oncology Center will be built on the territory of this department and laboratory.
“Patients will be treated with ionizing radiation, which is typical for oncology centers,” the rector added.
In addition, according to Victor Koksharov, the university is interested in multiplying the number of students from Uzbekistan. This is possible due to the development of the university infrastructure and the principle of universal education.
“Currently, 109 students from the Republic of Uzbekistan are studying at UrFU in the following fields: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Economics, Linguistics, Chemical Engineering, Psychology, and Information Security. The Ural Federal University has cooperation agreements with 26 higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. There is a huge potential for such cooperation in science and education that needs to be realized. We are interested in a significant, multiple increase in the number of students from this beautiful country,” the rector said.
The UrFU research complex includes dozens of research centers, an innovation infrastructure, a research library – with a collection of over 3 million publications – and several museums with specialized collections.
“UrFU students study in 14 academic buildings and live in 16 dormitories that form the campus (7,500 places). In recent years, two new dormitories have been opened – for 1,000 and 1,230 places. In 2023, several more dormitories with 9,800 places will be opened,” Koksharov added, talking about the conditions for students, including international students.
The trade fair “Innoprom. Central Asia” ended in Tashkent. It presented enterprises of metallurgical, machine-building and chemical industries, as well as developers of solutions for energy, information and telecommunication technologies.
