Ural Federal University To Increase The Number Of Foreign Students
The Ural Federal University is planning to increase the number of international students among the applicants for the post-graduate study programs. In the next admissions campaign, the quota for foreign students at Russian universities will increase up to 30 000 students. This will make Russia one of the top five countries for enrolling foreign students.
“According to the results of the 2022 admissions campaign, 1,770 foreign students were admitted to the UrFU. That is just under 15% more than the previous year. Over 65% of new international students are non-CIS citizens, compared to 44% in 2021. However, there have been some changes in the proportion of foreign students. The main increase is in the number of students from Egypt, Indonesia and Latin America,” said Victor Koksharov, the Rector of the UrFU.
Regarding the choice of educational programs, there is a tendency of growing interest in technical specialities among students from Middle Eastern countries, and interest in human sciences among students from Asian countries. The popularity of Russian education in Latin America and the Caribbean is also growing.
In addition, the UrFU intends to increase the proportion of international students as part of the “Priority 2030” program. This will be reflected in a steady growth in the number of foreign first-year students entering Master’s programs. This is one of the main objectives of the university’s international activities.
“Now we see a possible development of these trends, an expansion of the total number of foreign students, and a further promotion of the UrFU in a new educational market.” – stated Victor Koksharov.
