Ural Federal University: University Basketball Team Took First Bronze in the Russian Railways Student League
On March 11-13, the final stage of Russian Railways Student Basketball League among men’s teams was held in Izhevsk. The Ural Federal University team became a bronze medalist for the first time.
The Student Basketball Association is the largest student league in Eurasia, uniting 800 teams from 70 Russian regions. Every year the association holds more than 5 thousand matches. Approximately one third of professional basketball players of Russia have previously played in the championship of the Student Basketball Association. All players of the league are full-time students of universities and colleges.
In total, eight of the best teams competed for the championship along with the UrFU team. Teams from Malakhovka, St. Petersburg, Simferopol, Moscow, Izhevsk, Ekaterinburg and Stavropol took part in the Final Eight. The game of UrFU team for the third place was the most productive in terms of scoring. The Ural Federal University basketball team defeated the “LSU-Zenith” team in the final game with the score 107:102.
