Ural Federal University: University Experts Will Study Mining Culture in the Chelyabinsk Region and the Perm Territory

Local historians, historians and sociologists of Ural Federal University will go on an “Open Expedition” in August and September to study objects of mining and factory culture in the Chelyabinsk Region and the Perm Territory, TASS reports. They will have to evaluate the preserved infrastructure and propose options for its use to unlock the tourist potential.

“The Mount Belaya Tourist Cluster with the support of the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Sverdlovsk Region and the International Demidov Foundation is implementing the second stage of the “Open Expeditions” project. This time experts and travelers will go to study the objects of mining and factory civilization in the Chelyabinsk region. In total three trips are planned – on August 14, 15 and 21. In September “Demidovsky” trips to Permsky region are planned, and next year – to study objects of other known Ural industrialists”, the managers reported, noting that anyone can become a participant.

In the Chelyabinsk region the expedition participants will visit Kaslinsky and Kyshtymsky iron works, plant and wharf in the village of Shemakha and the plant in Verkhny Ufaley. Andrey Ermolenko, a historian and teacher at Ural Federal University, notes that the Kaslinsk factory is the oldest iron works in the region – it started operating in the 1740s and is still in operation today, it is world famous for its artistic iron casting.
