Ural Federal University: University Intends to Strengthen Relations with Slovenia

Radio engineering, linguistics, astronomy, ecology, economics, and a number of other areas have been identified as promising for cooperation between Ural Federal University and the University of Ljubljana – a discussion of joint plans took place in a video conference format.

“Our universities are similar in many respects – both in terms of the number of students and in terms of publication activity. At the same time, the experience we and our colleagues have accumulated can enrich our universities for their successful development in the coming years,” notes Victor Koksharov, Rector of UrFU.

Two institutes of Ural Federal University are now actively cooperating with Slovenian universities – the Institute of Humanities and the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The Engineering School of Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Control Systems is joining them, based on the agreement between the university and the technology company Iskratel-Ural. In addition, the Ural Power Engineering Institute and the Graduate School of Economics and Management are ready to offer their Slovenian colleagues opportunities for joint educational and research initiatives.

“The first experience in cooperation with the University of Ljubljana could be programs in the field of 5G technology and the Internet of Things. Next, we are ready to expand the collaboration in the fields of energy, economics, and management. The tools that can be used for this are joint summer and winter schools for Russian and Slovenian students. However, several other areas, in which the competences of our faculty and scientists are strong, have been left out, such as organic chemistry, art history, and several others,” adds rector.
