Ural Federal University: University Orientalists Showed Excellent Knowledge of Turkish Language and Culture
The VI All-Russian Competition in Turkish Language and Culture was held at Kazan Federal University. Its participants were 96 students from 12 universities, including nine students of the Ural Institute of Humanities at UrFU.
Alena Letemina won the oral competition (advanced level), and also brought the Ural team 3rd place in the poetry competition. Sergey Plugatyrev was the best in the writing competition (advanced level). Polina Fedanova won the contest on knowledge of Turkish history and culture, where Behruz Norov also took 2nd place. Anastasia Kalichenko added to the success of her team with 3rd place in the song contest. UrFU received the cup as the university whose students took the largest number of first places.
The jury of the contest included authoritative Turkologists: teachers of Turkish and related disciplines from leading Russian universities and public figures.
“The Competition-Olympiad is a great occasion for beginning Turkologists to meet their colleagues, make new friends and try their strength in their future profession and test their level of knowledge. This is a great opportunity for students to get new stimuli in mastering the Turkish language and culture,” said Appolinaria Avrutina, member of the jury and director of the Center for Modern Turkey and Russian-Turkish Relations at St. Petersburg State University.
